In 1999, just before the end of the old century, Pantone chose a specific blue – between marine and celestial. This color, according to a company press release, is the color of the century. 20 years later, he chose the color “classic blue” with the number 19-4052 for 2020. A nuance reminiscent of the sky at dusk.
“It’s a color that anticipates what’s going to happen next,” said Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, which selects the color of the year. “What will the future bring as we move into the evening hours?”
This color, according to them, embodies timelessness and simplicity, the excess of all ostentation and fussiness.
According to the official website, this version of blue was chosen due to the fact that it inspires “calmness, confidence and ‘connectedness'”. The blue hue “underscores our desire for a reliable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”
